Eagles Host Annual Red Bandanna Game to Honor Welles Crowther
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - No. 4 Boston College (3-1) look to host No. 14 UMass (4-0) at home on Friday at 5 p.m. in the annual Red Bandanna Game and then travel to Boston University (0-3) on the road on Sunday at 1 p.m. After a split weekend at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, the Maroon and Gold look to charge forward with the season as they face their third ranked opponent this weekend. Friday's game will be streamed on ACCNX and Sunday's can be found on ESPN+.
ABOUT THE RED BANDANNA GAME
Each year, Boston College honors Welles Crowther '99 with its annual Red Bandanna Game. The red bandanna was a defining feature used to identify Crowther, who died in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Crowther, known to survivors as "The Man in the Red Bandanna" is credited with saving at least one dozen people in the South Tower of the World Trade Center. Crowther played lacrosse at BC and worked as an equities trader in New York, on the 104th floor of the South Tower, following graduation.

- This will be the 32nd meeting between the Eagles and Minutewomen.
- UMass comes into the 2025 campaign with a 4-0 start fresh off its fifth NCAA Final Four and 27th NCAA Tournament appearance overall.
- Returning All-American Goalkeeper Myrte van Herwijnen has recorded three shutouts in her first four games of the season.
- When BC faced UMass last season on the road the Minutewomen scored early and held a 1-0 lead the rest of the game due to Herwijnen's 10 saves.
- This will be the 26th time the Eagles have faced the in town opponents with the first meeting in 1987.
- BU is part of the Patriot League.
- The Eagles have won the last seven meeting against the Terriers
- Freshman Rachel Turer has been named the Patriot League Field Hockey Rookie of the Week after her first Collegiate goal
- BC has shut out BU in the last two meetings.
- In their last meeting, the Eagles out scored the Terriers for a 6-0 victory in Newton.
- The Boston College made its way into the Top Five of the NFHCA weekly poll landing fourth.
- The highest the team has ever been ranked was third in 2021 coming off the ACC/Big Ten weekend.
- BC defeated three ranked opponents (No.3 Virginia, No. 18 California, No. 13 UAlbany) last season to remain perfect on their home turf over eight games.
