Nov. 16, 2012
Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The No. 29 women’s cross country punched their ticket to their third straight NCAA Championships appearance after a strong showing at last week’s Northeast Regional.
After earning an automatic bid last season, the Eagles took one of 13 at-large bids this year and look to improve on their 12th place finish at the NCAA's last year. This year's meet takes place at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday November 17 at noon.
Jillian King and Liv Westphal's performances at the Northeast Regionals on Friday paced the Eagles to a fourth place finish. The team will bring eight runners on the trip with one serving as a sub for the seven runner field.
The Eagles look to improve on their 12th place finish at Nationals in 2011 and their 19th place finish in 2010. BC last finished in the top 10 at Nationals in 2000 when they finished fourth overall in Ames, Iowa.
The team’s at-large bid will allow them to join fellow ACC rivals Duke and Florida State in Louisville after both team’s earned automatic bids in the South and Southeast Regionals respectively.
No. 11 Georgetown is the defending champion from last season and returns to the field after earning an automatic berth in the Mid-Atlantic Regional.
