Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College women's cross country members Jillian King and Liv Westphal were officially named to the All-Northeast Region Team on Monday, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
King, a senior from Scotia, N.Y., earned her third regional distinction with a 10th place finish at the Northeast meet in Buffalo, N.Y., on Saturday. The captain's 21:04.0 clip led BC to a second place finish and an automatic berth in the NCAA Championship.
Westphal, a freshman from Limoges, France, picked up her first USTFCCCA accolade by taking 19th place in the field of 243. The rookie conquered the six kilometer course in 21:20.5 to become the 15th student-athlete from BC to pick up a regional award. Boston College has totaled 27 Northeast honors since 2002.
The ACC had 23 women named to the All-Region list. The Big Ten lead all conferences with 29 mentions, followed by the Big East (26), ACC, Big 12 (23), SEC (20) and Ivy League (12).
The Eagles will be making their ninth team appearance at nationals, since 1999, next Monday, Nov. 21, in Terre Haute, Ind.
For the second straight year, Indiana State will host the Division I Cross Country Championship at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course. The men's race is scheduled to go off at 12:08 p.m., followed by the women's at approximately 12:58 p.m. Fans are invited to follow the live-stream of the entire meet.
