B.C.'s Angie Graham Finishes Third at NCAA Championships

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Boston College senior Angie Graham (Pickering, Ontario) finished third out of a field of 180 runners at the 1997 NCAA Women's Division I Cross Country Championships, held at the Furman University Golf Course.

Graham, who earned All-American status for the first time in cross country, finished her second NCAA Championship race with a time of 16:47. Graham had finished 74th in the 1996 event.

Sophomore Shannon Smith (Fairport, N.J.) also ran well, finishing 17th with a time of 17:03. Both Graham and Smith were automatic qualifiers to the event. On November 15, Graham finished first and Smith fifth at the NCAA District I Qualifier in Dorchester, Mass.

As a team, Boston College, which earned an at-large bid, finished ninth (out of 22 teams). It is the best finish by a BC team in its eight NCAA appearances.
