Feb. 7, 2014

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Setter Kellie Barnum and outside hitters Courtney Castle and Katty Workman have been elected captains of the Boston College volleyball team for the 2014 season according to an announcement made by head coach Chris Campbell on Friday, Feb. 7.

"I think our team has selected a great leadership core," said Campbell. "Kellie, Courtney, and Katty are all experienced players, good students, and hard workers who set a great example for the team. I am very confident in their ability to guide, encourage, and push this team forward."

Barnum becomes the ninth Eagle to serve as captain over multiple seasons. She joins Jennifer McEnroe (1990-91), Jeannette Gaehwiler (1993-94), Deanna Herman (1995-96), Julia Gallacher (1996-97), Kyleen Charlton (1999-2000), Dani Moskitis (2008-10) and Krystle Higgins (2011-12) as two-time captains. She will also join All-American outside hitter Allison Anderson (2004-06) and setter Verena Rost (2003-05) who captained the Eagles for three seasons at the Heights.

The Pacific Palisades, Calif., product totaled 1,109 assists on the season, the second most by any junior at Boston College. The setter sits under Verena Rost (2004) who notched 1,286 during her junior year. Barnum now has 2,540 assists throughout her career, the fourth most in BC history.

Courtney Castle had a great junior campaign, moving up to fourth all-time in career double-doubles with 27. The outside hitter totaled 159 kills and 258 digs during the 2013 season.

Katty Workman served as a vital component of the Eagles' offense in 2013. She finished her sophomore year sitting fourth in the ACC and fourth all-time at BC in single-season kills with 438. The Thousand Oaks, Calif., product also set a new sophomore single-season class record. She now holds the record in kills for the freshman and sophomore class.
