Volleyball Falls to Virginia Tech in Straight Sets, 3-0

Outside hitter Courtney Castle notched eight kills and 12 digs, along with two blocks and two assists in the Eagles loss to Virginia Tech on Friday night in Blacksburg, Va.
The Eagles (8-9, 0-5 ACC) dropped to the Hokies (15-4, 3-2 ACC) in straight sets, 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-14).
Courtney Castle paced the offense for the Eagles, while senior Melissa McTighe also contributed with five kills and four blocks. Team captain Kellie Barnum recorded three kills in addition to a team-high 15 assists and seven digs. Outside hitter Katty Workman also registered three kills of her own.
Defensively, freshman Madisen Lydon tallied nine kills for the Eagles.
Standouts for the Hokies included senior Victoria Hamsher and sophomore Kennedy Bryan who both recorded a match-high 14 kills. At the setter spot, junior Jordan Fish led the match with 33 assists.
The Eagles are back in action tomorrow night against Virginia at 7 p.m. in Charlottesville.
