Volleyball Drops to Northeastern in Four Sets, 3-1

Boston College volleyball (8-3) fell to Northeastern (5-6), 3-1 in four sets in its first match of the New England Challenge at Northeastern’s Solomon Court.
The Eagles dropped the first (25-19), second (25-21), and fourth (25-20) sets to the Huskies while taking the third set 25-20.
Outside hitter Katty Workman charted her fifth double-double of the season recording 11 kills and a team-high 20 digs. Junior Courtney Castle also recorded a double-double in the match posting 11 kills and 11 digs, marking her 23rd career double-double.
Senior Melissa McTighe tallied a team-high 13 kills along with a dig, two block solos, and three block assists. Captain Kellie Barnum led the match with 44 assists while also contributing six digs and a kill.
Other leaders for the Eagles included Amanda Yerke who notched six kills, four digs, and three block assists and freshman Barbara Gonzalez who charted five kills, a dig, and two block assists. Libero Lauren Fields registered 14 digs while freshman Madisen Lydon contributed 10 digs in the match.
Northeastern’s freshman Jamie Bredahl led the match with a triple-double, recording 10 kills, 17 assists, and 11 digs along with a block assist. Other standouts for the Huskies included Kelly Bacon who posted a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs and Hanna Gibeau who notched 10 kills.
The meeting marked the 26th time in school history that the two rival squads have matched up. Northeastern continues to lead the all-time record, 16-10.
The Eagles are back in action in the New England Challenge on Sunday, Sept. 22 as they face the Harvard Crimson at Power Gym at 2 p.m. The match is free admission.
