CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team was victorious in its final match of the weekend, flying past Rhode Island 3-1 in the Power Gymnasium in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

The Eagles are now 10-1 on the season while the Rams fell to 5-6.

Both teams were undefeated on the weekend and when the score was tied at 11-11 during the first set and the hometown crowd knew it was not going to come easy for the Eagles. Senior Taylor Williams' six kills pumped up the fans and her teammates to overcome the tough opposition, however, and Boston College charged forth to take the first set 25-20.

The back and forth scoring continued into the second set as the Eagles and Rams found themselves at 11-9, respectively, with Boston College looking to move further ahead in the match. After nine kills and a .226 hitting percentage for BC, the Eagles grabbed the second set for their own with a score of 25-17.

Boston College only needed one more set to sweep the weekend but the Rams were not going to hand it over easily. The two teams were set at 18-17 when the Eagles put a short burst of firepower forward to grab a 20-17 lead with only a few more points needed to earn a win. Although Boston College managed to keep the ball off the ground with 29 digs, the Rams capitalized on BC hitting errors and Rhode Island won the third set, 25-23.

The Eagles looked to end the match in the fourth and grabbed a 20-17 lead with only a short stretch remaining in the frame. Boston College had grown weary at this point in the two previous matches and knew that it needed to concentrate and fight to end this battle on its own terms. The Eagles attacked with their highest hitting percentage of the contest, .318, and blasted home 15 kills to take the fourth set 25-22 and win the match.

The BC offense was sparked by sophomore Mollie Kolosky and Williams, who had 15 and 12 kills, respectively.

The Eagle defense was strong and combined for a total of 13.5 blocks on the day. Boston College also had four players in double figures for digs as sophomore Brennan Clark had 21, sophomore Jordan Meredith had 18, freshman Krissy Mussenden had 12 and junior Kristen Baader had 11.

For their excellent play during the weekend, Williams, Kolosky and Clark earned All-Tournament team honors for the Eagles. Williams was also named the Tournament MVP. During the course of three matches, she recorded 43 kills and 118 attempts to ignite the BC fire and help will her team to three hard earned victories on the weekend.

The Eagles will open their ACC schedule this Tuesday, September 22, when they face Maryland at 3:00 p.m. in the Power Gymnasium in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
