WORCESTER, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team opened its weekend play in Worcester, MA with a thrilling 3-2 win over local rival, Northeastern University.
The Eagles moved to 6-1 on the season while the Huskies dropped to 4-4.
BC's opening two sets were practically complete opposites of one another with the Eagles coming out of the gate poorly in the first and firing from all cylinders in the second. Although the total kills in the sets were similar (10 in the first and 13 in the second) the two main points of focus were in errors and hitting percentage. A hitting percentage of .029 in the first and .571 in the second was a huge difference for the team and the nine errors in the opening frame was reduced to only one.
The Eagles fought hard but were edged in the third set 26-24 to give the Huskies a 2-1 cushion in sets for the match. Realizing that they could not falter any longer, Head Coach Andrea Leonard inspired her team to pick themselves up and put everything into the final two frames.
The fourth set proved to be the Eagles most dominant with 15 kills and a .500 hitting percentage leading the way to a 25-14 fourth frame win. Although the match was set at two sets apiece, the final one was all BC as they slammed home nine kills and a .438 hitting percentage to take the set 15-9 and win the match.
BC's offense was sparked with kills from sophomore Mollie Kolosky (17) senior Taylor Williams (14) and freshman Krystle Higgins (12). Freshman Krissy Mussenden's 55 assists also proved vital to the team's victory.
Sophomore Brennan Clark's 19 digs were enough to hold the defense and prevent Northeastern from capitalizing.
The Eagles will return to the court shortly to take on the host school, Holy Cross.

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team rounded out its weekend trip to Worcester, MA with a decisive 3-0 victory over host school, Holy Cross.
With the win, the Eagles moved to 7-1 on the year while the Crusaders fell to 1-7.
BC hardly hesitated after it completed its epic, 3-2 win over Northeastern earlier in the day before taking the court once again to match up with Holy Cross. The Eagles showed why they are now 7-1 on the season by flying through the opening two sets with scores of 25-18 and 25-13. 29 kills and only seven errors combined in the two sets gave BC the edge it needed going into what they planned on being the final set of the weekend.
Although Holy Cross refused to give up on their home court, the Eagles were too powerful for the Crusaders to handle and BC flew away with a 25-20 third set win. The team totaled a match high 20 kills and a hitting percentage of .277 in the third frame.
Once again, the Eagles offensive leaders were sophomore Mollie Kolosky and senior Taylor Williams who put forth 17 and 12 kills, respectively, for their team. Freshman Krissy Mussenden's 43 assists to go along with two service aces also were a great help to the Eagles.
The defense had many faces involved in keeping the ball off the floor. Sophomore Jordan Meredith led the way with 14 digs and sophomore Brennan Clark followed suit with 12. Junior Kristen Baader also had 11 digs on the night while freshman Krystle Higgins added two blocks as well.
Kolosky and Williams were also honored at the end of the day with All-Tournament honors as they helped lead BC to a perfect, 2-0 weekend.
The Eagles will return to Chestnut Hill to prepare for matches against Connecticut, Hartford and Rhode Island that will take place on their home court in the Power Gym next weekend.
