Volleyball Picks Up 3-1 Four-Set Victory over Mississippi State

Boston College (4-2) picked up a 3-1 four set victory over Mississippi State (2-2) in their second game at the Luxe City Center Trojan Invitational on the campus of Southern California.

Freshman Katty Workman recorded a double-double with a match-high 20 kills to go along with 10 digs. Teammate Courtney Castle contributed a strong all-around game notching a double-double of her own with 16 kills (on .419 hitting) and 23 digs in the team's second game at the Galen Center.

Cagla Sen tallied a team-high 39 assists to help even BC's all-time record against the Bulldogs to 1-1, and freshman Franny Hock put forth a strong defensive game with 23 digs.

The Eagles took the first set over the Bulldogs 25-20 behind four kills each from Castle and Workman. BC took a lead at 13-12 and never looked back. Sen paced the squad with 10 assists in set number one while Hock and Castle both contributed six digs to the effort.

BC dropped the second set to Mississippi State 25-21 despite hitting .316 with the Bulldogs taking a lead at 15-14 which they did not relinquish. Castle notched six kills with a service ace while Workman added five kills of her own in the set.

In the third set Boston College took a two-sets-to-one lead with a 25-18 victory. BC held a slight 13-12 lead earlier in the set before going on a 10-3 run to open up a 23-15 lead. Workman and Castle each had four kills in the set while Sen dished out 10 assists in set number three.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick 10-1 lead in the fourth set en route to a 25-12 victory in the match's final set. BC hit .500 in the deciding set while the Bulldogs hit just .081.

Boston College concludes play at USC with a match against the host Trojans tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. ET.
