Three Time All-American King Takes 8th in 800m Final
June 8, 2012
Des Moines, Iowa - Caroline King earned the third All-American honor of her career with an eighth-place finish in the 800-meter run at the 2012 Outdoor Track & Field NCAA Championship Meet on Friday evening at Drake Stadium. The Scotia, N.Y., native completed the half mile in 2:05.77.
King took command on the break, but was overtaken by the eventual champion Nachelle Mackie of BYU (2:01.06) and Tennessee's Chanelle Price (2:01.49), who took third. The Eagle held firm in third into the bell lap, but the field collapsed around her on the final backstretch. King fought to the line, completing the race in eighth.
King concludes her career as one of Boston College's most decorated student-athletes. Across three sports, she earned three first team and one honorable mention All-American honors, claimed two ACC 800-meter titles en route to six All-ACC accolades, won three ECAC and one New England championship on the track and anchored the women's program to its first and only Penn Relays event title. King qualified for track nationals four times, was named the 2011 Penn Relay College Women's Athlete of the Meet for Relay Events and became just the second Eagle to compete in three championship races in one academic year in 2011.
King set seven school records for individual and relay events: the indoor 1,000-meter run (2:44.60), mile (4:36.00) and distance medley relay (11:05.69); the outdoor 800-meter sprint (2:03.03), 4x800-meter relay (8:33.85), 4x1500-meter relay (17:25.19) and distance medley relay (11:12.41). Her name also appears on BC all-time top performance lists for the indoor half mile (3rd - 2:06.28), outdoor 1,500-meter run (2nd - 4:17.48) and three additional times with indoor distance medley relays.
