Charlottesville, Va. – Senior Kelsey Huckins opened the 2012 Outdoor ACC Track & Field Championship at Lannigan Track on the University of Virginia campus on Thursday afternoon.
Huckins produced her longest hammer throw mark of the year on her first toss. The senior hit 50.16 meters (164-7.0 ft.), which won flight one, but did not advance her to the finals. Huckins took 10th overall and will await the discus competition on Saturday. The Westmoreland, N.H. native earned All-ACC honors in the discus as a sophomore, before missing her junior year due to an injury.
Juniors Elizabeth O’Brien and Moira Kenny contested the 10,000-meter run and earned ECAC qualifiers. O’Brien led in 36:09.12, taking 13th overall, and Kenny completed the heat in 36:13.85.
Freshman Greg Malloy posted a New England standard in the men’s 10,000m, running 32:38.87 in front of senior Jack Shannon at 32:54.31.
Shane Cranmore’s 49.80 meters javelin heave earned him 10th place.
