Kevin McGovern enters his third season as an assistant coach with the men's and women's track and field program. McGovern works with sprinters, pole vault, high jump, long jump and triple jump events. He is a USA Track & Field certified level 1 instructor.

Under McGovern, Ben Kocarnik and Carly Rayburn-Hwang established new records for the men's and women's pole vault in 2006. Kocarnik set the new record of 14'7" for mens outdoor track, and Rayburn-Hwang for the womens indoor track with a vault of 12'2".

McGovern comes to Boston College after coaching for six years at Wayland High School. While at Wayland, McGovern coached three Boston Globe All-Scholastic athletes, a 2005 Metro West Daily News Athlete of the Year, and six individual state champions.

As a high school athlete at Cheshire High School in Cheshire, Conn., he holds a school record that still stands today in the 1,000-yard run and the mile relay in indoor track. A graduate of the Art Institute of Boston, where he received a bachelor of fine arts in 1992, McGovern has remained active in athletics and has earned four All-American honors in the past three years from USA Triathlon, one for the duathlon where he was ranked 12th in the country among men 45-49 years old. He is currently ranked third in the Northeast in the triathlon for men 45-49.

Outside of track and field, McGovern has illustrated three children's books that have been published and are catalogued in the Library of Congress. McGovern was commissioned to paint the portrait of Boston College hockey coach Jerry York, which was presented to him in celebration of his 500th win.

McGovern resides in Framingham, Mass., with his wife, Jane, their son, Phineas, and daughter, Kathryn.
