Boston College women’s tennis has several players selected to play in the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships located at Harvard University’s Murr Center in Cambridge, Mass., beginning Thursday, Oct. 17.

Six singles players and three doubles teams qualified for the main draw, the maximum number of players allotted from one school.

The Eagles selected for singles play include Jessica Wacnik, Lexi Borr, Katya Vasilyev, Heini Salonen, and Emily Safron. Sophomore Wan-Yi Sweeting will play in the qualifying singles draw.

BC also qualified three doubles pairs to play in the event in Wacnik and teammate Borr as well as the tandem of Vasilyev and Sweeting and Safron and Salonen.

Competition is set to begin on Thursday, Oct. 17 with pre-qualifying singles matches, while main draw action is slated for Friday, Oct. 18 through Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Participating players are competing for an automatic entry into the 2013 USTA/ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships held on Nov. 7-10 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

“I am very proud of all our players’ hard work,” coach Bentley commented. “We have a lot of really good players and it’s nice the selection committee recognized the depth of our team. We are excited for the Regional Championships this weekend and there is added enthusiasm because the tournament is local.”
