Chestnut Hill, Mass. -

Boston College women's tennis team competed in its third tournament of the fall season this past weekend at the Yale Invitational

The tournament began on Friday, Oct. 4 and finished up late on Sunday, Sunday Oct. 6.

Participating schools included: Boston College, Brown, Dartmouth, Iowa, Penn State, Purdue, UPenn and Virginia Tech.

The Eagles overall singles and doubles record was 18-14 during the three day tournament, with the highlight being a 5-1 record against #27 Purdue in singles on Friday morning.

Other highlights included sophomore Heini Salonen winning all of her singles matches and sophomore Jennifer Ren earning her first ever BC singles victory defeating Sherry Li from Yale in a three-set battle.

"It was a great weekend for us," said assistant coach Kieran Burke. "We are a really young group, and I was impressed by how much the girls are starting to come together as a team. I think it shows in our performance and the improvement each player has made since the season began a couple weeks ago"

"Doubles continues to be a point of emphasis for the team," Burke said. "We have been working on our doubles play a lot. Our movement patterns, shot selection, and  targets have greatly improved. We will continue to make this a priority in practice."

BC is back in action at the Regional Championship at Harvard University Oct. 18-22.
