Women's Tennis Defeats Harvard, Improves to 6-0

The Boston College women's tennis team improved to 6-0 on the season with a road win against cross town rival Harvard Saturday, 5-2 at the Murr Center. The two nationally ranked teams put on a classic battle. The match lasted more than four hours and the win for the Eagles is their third consecutive over the Crimson.
essica Wacnik and Lexi Borr set the tone for evening at No. 1 doubles. They improved to 17-3 on the year and defeated Harvard's No. 1 team of nationally ranked Monica Lin and Spencer Liang 8-4. Jenny Ren and Heini Salomen in the No. 2 spot came from behind to win 8-7(4) and give the Eagles the doubles point and the 1-0 team lead. Katya Vasilyev and Emily Safron at No. 3 were leading 6-5, 30-0 when the point was clinched.
In singles play, the Eagles took a 3-1 lead when Wacnik at No. 1 and Safron at No. 6 each won their matches. The remaining matches seesawed back and forth and lasted more than 2 1/2 hours. Jenny Ren at No. 4 clinched the win for the Eagles when she fought back to win in three sets. Ren was serving at 2-6, 5-6, love -15 when she put together a streak of 10 straight points that marked a huge momentum swing. Vasilyev on an adjacent court was also locked in a tight battle in the No. 3 position. She was able to persevere in a long hard hitting slug fest that sent the Eagles home with the win.
Assistant Coach Kieran Burke said "It feels great to earn this win. The team fought so hard. We were really tough mentally and I am really proud of our effort tonight."
