Women's Tennis Contend at Regional Championships

Chestnut Hill, Mass- The Boston College women’s tennis team competed in the Northeast Regional Championships on Oct. 17-Oct. 22 in Cambridge, Mass.

The doubles team of junior Jessica Wacnik and freshman Lexi Borr advanced to the semi finals of the 64- team doubles draw.  The duo defeated pairs from Brown, Princeton, Seton Hall and Dartmouth to advance to the final four before falling to a team from Columbia.  Wacnik and Borr finish the fall season with an overall record of 10-2. 

BC's team of Katya Vasilyev and Wan Yi Sweeting secured two rounds to advance to the round of 16. 

Wacnik and Borr also advanced to the round of 16 in the 128 player singles draw while Katya Vasilyev made it the round of 32.  The Eagles also had Emily Safron, Wan Yi Sweeting and Heini Salonen qualify for the tournament.

"We played hard all weekend and I am very proud of our effort.  We need to execute better on the big points and we need to get healthy,” commented head coach Nigel Bentley after the six-day tournament concluded.  “Lexi performed at a high level all weekend and had a very close match with the eventual tournament champion.  I think our teams’ depth was evident and that will be a major strength for us come January when the team matches begin."
