No. 9 Women's Tennis Loses to No. 8 NC State, 4-1

CARY, N.C. - Freshman Wan-Yi Sweeting won in singles, but ninth-seeded Boston College fell to eighth-seeded North Carolina State, 4-1, in the first round of the ACC Championship at Cary Tennis Park on Thursday morning.

The Wolfpack (14-8) won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point before taking three victories in singles to clinch the match over the Eagles (9-10).

Sweeting defeated NC State's Nicole Martinez, 7-5, 6-4, on court No. 6 to pick up BC's lone point in the match.

Senior Olga Khmylev and freshman Heini Salonen won on doubles court No. 2, 9-7, over Elisha Hande and Nicole Martinez while BC's two other doubles teams dropped 8-6 decisions.

Senior Alex Kelleher and freshman Katya Vasilyev led in their respective singles matches when the match was called.

NC State will play first-seeded North Carolina on Friday at 9 a.m. in the quarterfinal round.
