Women's Tennis Blanks Pitt In First Round of ACC Championship

CARY, N.C. - Boston College freshman Lexi Borr beat Pittsburgh's Lolade Ogungbesan 6-3, 6-2 to clinch a 4-0 victory for the 10th-seeded Eagles in the opening round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship at the Cary Tennis Park on Wednesday.
It marked the first time BC women's tennis has won a match in the ACC Tournament.
Prior to her clinching-win at No. 3 singles, Borr teamed with All-ACC second-team honoree Jessica Wacnik to earn a win at the No. 1 doubles position, defeating Taylor Washington and Audrey Ann Blakeley, 8-3.
In singles play, Wacnik beat Audrey Ann Blakely, 6 -2, 6-3, at the No. 1 position. BC sophomore Heini Salonen defeated Katherine Castro, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 4 slot before Borr clinched the victory.
Boston College's Vasilyev, Safron and Sweeting were each up one set against their respective opponents when their matches when the Eagles sealed the win.
Wake Forest and Virginia Tech were also winners in first-round play on Wednesday.
Next, Boston College will face No. 7 seed Notre Dame in second-round play on Thursday, April 24 at noon time.
