#51 Women's Tennis Defeats #59 Wake Forest, 5-2

April 5, 2014

DEDHAM, Mass. - The #51 Boston College women's tennis team defeated #59 Wake Forest Friday night at the Dedham Health and Fitness Club by a score of 5-2.  The Eagles improve to 11-7 on the season and 3-7 in ACC play.

BC had to play catch up after dropping a close doubles point.  Jessica Wacnik and Lexi Borr won at the #1 spot to give the Eagles the early edge but BC lost two matches in tiebreakers at #2 and #3 and Wake took the point.

BC rebounded in singles.  Freshman Lexi Borr got the Eagles on the board with a convincing win at #3 and then Katya Vasliyev followed with a solid win at #2.  Jessica Wacnik was next up extending BC's lead with a strong performance at #1.  The three remaining matches were all very tight.  Wake Forest closed the gap to 3-2 by winning at #4.  The victory was sealed by Emily Safron at #5 and Wan Yi Sweeting came back to defeat her opponent at #6.

"I am very proud of how hard we competed tonight," said Coach Burke.  "Wake is a solid team and we were able to stay calm after dropping a tough doubles point and really play some great singles matches.  We are very strong mentally and we continued to believe in ourselves in some close matches and we found a way to win."

BC returns to action Sunday against North Carolina State at Dedham at 5 p.m.
