Freshman Heini Salonen won in singles and doubles, but No. 62 Boston College fell to No. 56 Virginia Tech, 4-3, at the Dedham Health & Athletic Complex in Dedham, Mass., on Saturday evening.
The Eagles (7-2, 1-1 ACC) took the doubles point before the Hokies (13-2, 2-0 ACC) won four out of six singles matches with each of their singles wins coming in three sets.
Salonen won on court No. 4 in singles, 6-3, 6-4, over Kelly Williford and teamed with senior Olga Khmylev to win on court No. 2 in doubles, 8-6, over Carol Kahoun and Raluca Mita.
Senior Alex Kelleher earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Isel Martinez-Marcos on court No. 2 in singles. She partnered with sophomore Jessica Wacnik to defeat Kelly Williford and Ilinca Stoica, 8-5, on doubles court No. 1.
Wacnik, senior Kelly Barry, and freshmen Katya Vasilyev and Wan-Yi Sweeting each fell in three sets in singles play.
Next, Boston College plays at Virginia on March 22 at noon in its first ACC road match.
