Women's Tennis Defeats Massachusetts

Amherst, Mass. - The No. 52 Boston College women's tennis team defeated Massachusetts, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Bay Road Tennis Club, improving to 2-1 in dual matches this season. The Eagles took all three double matches and five of the six singles matches.
Freshman Jessica Wacnik and senior Erina Kikuchi, ranked 32nd in the nation, defeated Chantal Swiszcz and Yuliana Motyl, 8-1, on the first court, while juniors Olga Khmylev and Ina Kauppila took down Sonia Bokhari and Hazuki Onaga, 8-4, on the second court. Senior Katarina Gajic and junior Kelly Barry finished the doubles sweep with a close, 8-7(6) win over Chanel Glasper and Jessica Podlofsky.
All five of the Eagles' singles wins came in the first two sets. Wacnik, ranked 108th in the nation, stayed undefeated on the young season as she took down Motyl, 6-1, 7-6(1), on court one. The Orlando Park, Ill., native played in the No. 1 spot for the first time this season. Kikuchi earned the win in the No. 2 spot with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Bokhari and Khmylev took down Podlofsky, 6-2, 7-6(4). Khmylev, like Wacnik, is 3-0 this year. Gajic defeated Julia Comas, 6-3, 6-2, and Barry finished off Swiszcz, 6-3, 6-4, on courts four and five, respectively. Freshman Sarah Dalton saw her first action of the dual season, falling to Glasper in a hard-fought battle, 6-7(6), 6-1, 1-0(7).
The Eagles return to action on Friday, Feb. 3 when they travel to College Park, Md., for their first ACC matchup of the season. They will take on the Terrapins at 1p.m.
