BC's Tow Earns USTA/New England Sportsmanship Award

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College freshman tennis standout Cynthia Tow (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline) had been recognized as the 1997 United States Tennis Association/New England William Hoblitzelle Sportsmanship Award in the girls-18 age group.

Tow recently completed a fine fall season on the hardcourts for the Eagles, who are under the guidance of head coach Mark Burns. Playing primarily in the number one and two singles positions, Tow recorded a team-best 15-6 mark. In doubles competition, Tow and classmate Kiren Fernando (Lake Oswego, Ore.) were the Eagles' top duo, recording a 7-3 record.

Tow came to Boston College after a storied scholastic career. Ranked #2 in New England and #37 nationally in the 18-under group, Tow was a three-time Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic selection at Brookline High School.
