BC's Tow Earns USTA/New England Sportsmanship Award
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College freshman tennis standout
Cynthia Tow (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline) had been
recognized as the 1997 United States Tennis Association/New
England William Hoblitzelle Sportsmanship Award in the girls-18
age group.
Tow recently completed a fine fall season on the hardcourts for
the Eagles, who are under the guidance of head coach Mark
Burns. Playing primarily in the number one and two singles
positions, Tow recorded a team-best 15-6 mark. In doubles
competition, Tow and classmate Kiren Fernando (Lake Oswego,
Ore.) were the Eagles' top duo, recording a 7-3 record.
Tow came to Boston College after a storied scholastic career.
Ranked #2 in New England and #37 nationally in the 18-under
group, Tow was a three-time Boston Globe and Boston Herald
All-Scholastic selection at Brookline High School.
