The Boston College men's and women's swim teams traveled to Yale University this weekend to compete in the Nutmeg Invitational. In addition to the Bulldogs, the Eagles swam against teams from Syracuse, Fordham, Williams, Bridgeport, Central Connecticut, C.W. Post, and Wagner. Team scores were not held in the two-day event.
The Eagles had a strong start to the meet in the 200 freestyle relay. Both women's relay teams dominated the event with a 1-2 finish. Liz Byron, Elizabeth Snyder, Megan Hurd, and Caroline Byron took the top spot with a time of 1:36.12, while the `B' relay of Kelly Leahey, Holly Boucher, Torey Thelin, and Tanya Suryoutomo followed with a 1:39.59.
The women continued their strong performances in the remaining relay events. The 400 freestyle relay team of Liz Byron, Hurd, Kelly Leahey, and Caroline Byron won the event with a 3:31.00, while the 200 medley relay team of Liz Byron, Boucher, Thelin, and Caroline Byron took the victory in 1:49.12. The Eagles also took second place in the 400 medley and 800 freestyle relays.
The Byrons took the top two spots in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Liz Byron was victorious in both events with times of 24.21 and 52.32, respectively. Caroline Byron finished a close second to her older sister, clocking a 24.27 and 52.89.
Mari Wunschel also had strong performances in the 200 and 400 individual medley events, finishing second in both with times of 2:11.72 and 4:33.17.
As a whole, the Eagles set season-best times in nearly every event in the meet, as they concluded their competition for the Fall semester.
After completing their winter break training in Tampa, FL, the Eagles will resume their dual-meet schedule at home on January 21, versus UMass.
