Swimming Sweeps Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - John Maloy won two events for the men's team, while nine separate individuals won races for the women completing a sweep of Springfield College in a non-conference dual meet Sunday afternoon.

The men won 165-133, and own a 3-2 record, while the women earned a 185-115 win and are now 5-1 on the season.

Maloy earned victories in the 100 fly (0:53.67) and the 200 medley (1:58.62) totaling 18 points for the Eagles. John's brother, Joseph Maloy, won the 1,000 free in a time of 10:17.59.

The men's team took two relay events from Springfield, winning the 200 medley and 200 free relay in times of 1:41.00 and 1:27.96.

Other winners on the men's team included: Andrew Brown (50 backstroke), Robert Swaninger (50 breaststroke), William Schwitter (50 butterfly) and Brett Bromann (100 backstroke).

The women's team won two relays and nine events - all by different individuals - in their victory versus Springfield.

BC won the 200 medley and 200 free relays in times of 1:53.87 and 1:46.56. In the distance events, Caroline Byron (500 free) and Jessie Couper (1,000 free) earned top honors.

The Eagles won both breaststroke events in the women's meet. Caryn Switaj (50 backstroke) and Kristyn Roth (100 backstroke) received wins in times of 0:30.36 and 1:02.79.

Mari Wunschel (50 free), Valerie Crisp (100 breaststroke), Tanya Suryoutomo (200 free), MacKenzie Campbell (200 medley) and Maeve Brennan (3-meter) also contributed wins on the afternoon.

The next meet for BC is on Friday, Nov. 2 when Florida State travels to Chestnut Hill, Mass. The meet is scheduled for 6 p.m.
