BEFORE BC:
Sam attended Scarborough High School in Maine and swam 3 years for the high school team and 11 for her club team, Coastal Maine Aquatics. She was a captain for her club team senior year and was awarded the Jamie Higgins Sportsmanship award. Sam qualified and competed in 5 sectional meets and a Grand Prix Series Meet. She was awarded MVP and Most Outstanding Swimmer award through her high school team and is the school record holder in the 100 Breaststroke. She also participated in the school band, academic decathlon, and helped found the Interact Club, a volunteering organization.

PERSONAL:
Sam is the daughter of Mary Jane and Richard Couillard. Her sister is Beth, a graduate of Lehigh University and an Environmental Engineer in Pennsylvania. Her brother is Matt, a senior at Johns Hopkins University. Sam is a student of the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in biology.
