Nov. 8, 2011
The Boston College softball team unveiled its 2012 schedule on Tuesday, which includes four tournaments, 16 home games and five matchups with 2011 NCAA Tournament teams.
The Eagles open their season a three-day, five-game tournament at Florida Gulf Coast beginning on Feb. 17. They will face Delaware, Binghamton, St. Louis, Tennessee-Martin and the host FGCU Eagles. They also play in two other Florida tournaments - at USF in Tampa (March 2-4) and at Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton (March 9-11). BC will face 2011 NCAA Tournament participants Bethune-Cookman to open their play at FAU.
BC will also travel to Charlotte, N.C., to play in the 49ers Invitational Feb. 24-26. The Eagles will play Morgan State, Towson, host UNC Charlotte and one more team to be named later.
The Eagles open the Atlantic Coast Conference play at Georgia Tech on March 17. Last year, they finished with a 5-14 record in the ACC and dropped all three games to the Yellow Jackets. Their first home game is slated for March 24 against Dartmouth at 1 p.m. BC defeated the Big Green, 7-2 and 5-3, in a doubleheader in 2011. BC's first home ACC matchup comes on March 31 when the Eagles take on Virginia at Shea Field. In the 2011 meeting, BC swept the Cavaliers in the three-game series.
Key in-state matchups include a March 22 meeting with Comm. Ave-rival Boston University at BU, April 4 (away) and April 18 (home) games against Massachusetts, a doubleheader at Harvard, a 2011 NCAA Tournament team, and an April 26 date with the Terriers at home.
North Carolina will host the 2012 ACC Tournament in Chapel Hill. The single-elimination format begins on May 11.
