Softball Welcomes New Assistant Coach

Danielle Del Ponte will join the softball team staff as the second assistant coach, head coach Ashley Obrest announced on Friday. Del Ponte comes to The Heights from Springfield College, where she spent two seasons with The Pride.
The Tewksbury, Mass., native played college softball at Connecticut, earning her undergraduate degree in education, majoring in coaching and administration. While at Springfield, she earned her Masters of Education is sports management and recreation and was a teaching fellow.
As an assistant coach with The Pride, she was responsible for the development of the pitching and catching staff and shared responsibility for the recruitment of prospective student-athletes. She also conducted marketing and promotional activities throughout the academic year to raise funds for the softball program.
The former catcher earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Academic All-America and BIG EAST Academic Team honors in 2008 and 2009, and was named to the BIG EAST Tournament Team as a junior. That season, she led the Huskies with 32 RBIs and a .614 slugging percentage. As a senior, she tallied a .991 fielding percentage, making only three errors on the season.
Del Ponte joins Erica Hanrahan and Obrest to complete the BC Softball coaching staff. The Eagles are returning 15 players for the 2012 season and welcome four newcomers.
