Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Head softball coach Ashley Obrest has announced that two captains have been selected for the 2012-2013 Boston College softball team. Senior Nicole D'Argento and senior Maria Pandolfo were both chosen by their teammates.
"This fall, Maria and Nicole have proven to their teammates that they are our leaders both on and off the field. I couldn't be any happier with the decision to name these two young ladies our captains. They are passionate, determined, and competitive athletes who lead by example day in and day out," said Obrest.
D'Argento, a 2012 All-ACC First Team selection and NFCA All-Region First Team member, led the Eagles last spring with a .338 batting average, 27 runs scored, .558 slugging percentage, 52 hits, 27 runs, 9 home runs, 86 total bases, 22 walks and 154 plate appearances. On the mound, she led the team in strikeouts, starts, relief appearances and saves.
Pandolfo missed most of the 2012 season due to injuries but did start in 16 games, batted .300 and posted an impressive .425 slugging percentage. Currently, she serves on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
"Maria battled through several injuries last season but she worked extremely hard over the summer and came back ready to go. She posted an impressive .450 batting average during our fall ball games and was our staple in center field."
