Head coach Ashley Obrest has named Indiana University product, Sara Olson, as assistant softball coach for the 2013 season.
Olson, who hails from Orland Park, Ill., spent last season as a student assistant coach at Indiana under head coach Michelle Gardner. Her main responsibilities included: athletic training, weight room work, skill training, game leadership, and video analysis.
During her four year playing career at Indiana, Olson finished tied for fifth in career home runs (25) and sixth in career RBI (95). During her senior year, Sara was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Midwest Region First Team, First Team All-Big Ten at first base, and received Indiana’s most prestigious athletic award, the Spirit of Indiana Director’s Award.
Olson also lead the Big Ten with a .425 average, a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.392 OPS her senior year in conference games. The Hoosiers finished that season with a 37-18 (17-3 Big Ten) record, good for second place in the conference.
Since 2007, Sara has worked in numerous Indiana University softball clinics and has given private and group lessons for players/teams in the Chicago and Indiana areas. She majored in Recreation Sports Management and Parks and Recreation Management with a minor in Tourism Management at Indiana.
