Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Nicole D'Argento was named to the 2012 National Fastpitch Coaches Association's (NFCA) Division I All-Region First Team in an announcement made by the organization on Thursday, May 17. The junior pitcher/first-baseman is Boston College's first All-Region selection since Renee Ramos was tabbed for the first team accolade in 2008.
D'Argento is one of six ACC student-athletes to earn NFCA All-Region honors and one of five representing the Mid-Atlantic Region. The first team All-ACC member was joined by Candice Beards (DP - Maryland), Kendra Knight (P - Maryland), Vangie Galindo (OF - Maryland), Ally Blake (OF - North Carolina) and Lauren Gaskill (OF - Virginia Tech) on the regional squad.
D'Argento ranked among the ACC's top 10 in 20 statistical categories at the end of the Eagles' season. The Ashland, Mass. native rated sixth in the league for batting average (.340), seventh in slugging percentage (.564), ninth in batters struck out (115) and first in saves (5). D'Argento topped the BC also lineup with 31 runs batted in, 52 hits, 27 scored, nine home runs and 154.1 innings pitched in a team-high 38 appearances.
A total of 263 players representing 129 different institutions comprise this season's first and second regional teams. The NFCA member coaches from each region select the all-region squads. All the first team honorees are eligible for All-American teams.
