The seventh-seeded Boston College softball team will play second-seeded Notre Dame in the first round of the ACC Softball Championship on Thursday, May 8 at 5 p.m. in College Park, Maryland. Fans can view the game on ESPN3 or a local regional network.
This is the Eagles first appearance in the ACC Tournament since the 2008 season. BC went 30-22 overall and 12-14 in the conference. The 12 wins is a program high since the Eagles joined the conference.
The Eagles finished the season going 6-4 in the last 10 games. As a team, Boston College hit .290, had 74 hits, 54 runs and 114 total bases in the 10 game span. The Eagles had a team slugging percentage of .447 and on base percentage of .383 in the run.
In the last 10 games, senior Tory Speer had 29 at bats, 15 hits, 15 runs, five home runs and 33 total bases while hitting .517. Shortstop Jessie Daulton hit .414, had 12 hits and 15 total bases in the 10 game span. On the mound, senior Nicole D'Argento went 3-2, had an ERA of 2.85 in 27 innings pitched.
BC is coming off a tough three-game road trip against No. 22 Notre Dame. The Eagles lost all three games as Notre Dame outscored BC, 29-13. D'Argento took two of the losses as she gave up seven runs in eight innings pitched. Freshman Jordan Weed pitched eight and a third innings, gave up 15 runs on 18 hits. Offensively, senior Tory Speer led BC as she went 7-for-9 (.700) from the plate with five runs, two RBI, one home run and 12 total bases. Freshman Tatiana Cortez went 4-for-10 (.400) with six total bases and two doubles.
Senior Nicole D'Argento won a career-high 18 games this past season. She was third in the ACC in games started ... Senior Tory Speer leads the ACC and is seventh in the nation in walks with 46, teammate Nicole D'Argento is right behind her with 41 base on balls. Speer became the all-time leader in home runs as she hit 12 this season for a career-total of 41 ... Jessie Daulton is in the midst of an 18-game hit streak. The Eagles sophomore shortstop has 21 hits in 53 at bats in the run ... The team is currently hitting .273 for the season, which is the third highest batting average in a single season for a BC team. The 1995 holds the record of .280.
