Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College freshman Kimberly Ryan, who set a BIG EAST record with 106 strikeouts in league play this season, was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year at Friday night's softball awards banquet.

Ryan shared the honor with Notre Dame first baseman Andrea Loman.

Both Ryan and Loman were also named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Eagle senior Chris Vicari was also a first-team selection, while classmate Lauren Fischetti was named to the second team.

Ryan also earned a spot on the league's All-Rookie team.

The Eagles will be in action Saturday at noon against Villanova.
