Gaudreau, Weed Named Eagles of the Week

April 15, 2014

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Johnny Gaudreau (men's hockey) and freshman Jordan Weed (softball) have been named Eagles of the Week.

Gaudreau became the third Eagle in program history to win the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, presented annually to the nation's most outstanding Division I men's college hockey player. Gaudreau's 80 points in a season is the third-highest total in Boston College history and the most of any college hockey player since Peter Sejna's 82-point performance with Colorado College in 2002-03. In 40 games played, Gaudreau accrued 36 goals and 44 assists, averaging an NCAA-best 2.00 points per game.

Weed earned two wins and a save to lead the Eagles to a 4-1 week. In 19.1 innings pitched, Weed struck out nine, walked five and gave up just three runs. At the plate, Weed hit .500, had a .545 on-base percentage and an .800 slugging percentage. Against UMass, she hit a two-out, two-run single in the 10th as the Eagles won, 4-3. Weed hurled a one-hit shutout in a 3-0 win against BU and then had a three-run home run in the Eagles 8-0 victory against Maryland.

The men's hockey team finished its season with a 28-8-4 record. Softball (22-17, 6-9 ACC) is at Syracuse and NC State this week.
