CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Senior co-captain Tory Speer was tabbed ACC Player of the Week as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Monday. The Trabuco Canyon, Calif. native helped the Eagles earn four victories at the Diamond Devil Invitational hosted by Arizona State over the weekend with her exceptional offensive performance.

Speer tallied seven hits in 13 at bats, good for a .538 batting average, and posted a 1.615 slugging percentage over five games in the tournament. She notched six extra base hits (four home runs and two doubles), drove in 10 runs and scored nine herself. The senior catcher also added one stolen base on her only attempt.

In the first game of the tournament, a 7-6 victory over Idaho State, Speer helped BC take an early lead with a solo homer in the second inning. In the second game of Friday’s doubleheader, she blasted a solo home run and an RBI double to help the Eagles come back from an early seven-run deficit, as BC defeated Drake 11-8.

Speer followed up a productive Friday with more power on Saturday. She aided the Eagles in yet another come-from-behind victory with a two-run homer and three RBI in an 8-4 victory over Drake. BC trailed the game 3-0 after the first inning, but stormed back to claim the victory.

The hard-hitting catcher capped off the weekend tournament with her best performance on Sunday. Speer scored three runs and drove in four more with a double and her fifth home run of the season. She currently leads the Eagles with a .409 batting average and 14 runs batted in on the season.

This is the fourth time in her collegiate career that Speer has captured ACC Player of the Week accolades.

Boston College (6-4) is back in action Saturday, March 1 for a doubleheader at Georgia Tech. The games are scheduled to begin at 1 and 3 p.m., and video of both games will be streamed live on ESPN3.
