Softball Opens 2013 Season in Tennessee

Feb. 21, 2013

Frost Classic Tournament Central

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The BC softball team kicks off the 2013 campaign in the Frost Classic hosted by UT-Chattanooga on Friday.  The Eagles will battle Missouri State and Miami-Ohio in a doubleheader on Friday, Ohio and Chattanooga on Saturday before concluding the tournament on Sunday against Toledo.

Head coach Ashley Obrest returns for her second season at the Heights after recording a 23-30 record last season.  She is joined by a new staff of assistants, Sara Olson and Shayne Lotito, who were star players at Indiana and Boston University respectively.

Seniors Nicole D'Argento and Maria Pandolfo were elected captains for the 2013 season.  With D'Argento injured to start the year, the Eagles will look to sophomore Chelsea Dimon and freshman Stephanie Lord to eat up the bulk of the innings on the mound.  Offensively, BC will look towards Andrea Filler (.300 avg, 7 HR, 19 RBI in 51 GP) and Pandolfo (.300 avg, 1 HR, 4 RBI in 16 GP) to carry the load on offense.

Newcomers Megan Cooley, Jessie Daulton, and Stephanie Lord will be asked to contribute right away for the Eagles in 2013.  Cooley is expected to get time in right and left field and utilize her speed on the bases while Daulton's athleticism and great glove will be vital at third base.  Lord, a lefty hurler, looks to keep hitters off-balance with her off-speed pitches.
