Softball Defeats Maine, 4-3

The Boston College softball team won its fifth consecutive game and 30th game of the season with a, 4-3, victory over Maine in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Shea Field. The Eagles improved to 30-19 and will finish the season with a three-game series at Notre Dame. Maine is now 17-18 on the season.
Freshman Jordan Weed went the distance as she won her 11th game of the season. Weed had six strikeouts and gave up four hits in the win.
Offensively the Eagles were led by Megan Cooley and Nicole D'Argento with two hits, while Alana Dimaso had a home run and Tory Speer had a double. Defensively, Cooley came up with two diving catches and D'Argento had a great play on a hard hit ball late in the game to seal the win.
DiMaso gave BC a cushion when she ripped a shot over the center field fence for a, 2-0, Eagles lead. It was DiMaso's sixth home run of the season.
Weed breezed through the fifth inning as she struck out Rachel Harvey and Shannon Obert to open the inning. The inning ended on Cooley's second diving catch off a line drive to center off the bat of Maine's Maddie Moore.
The Eagles took a 4-0 lead when Nicole Koszowski single to center, followed by Cooley's second infield single. With two on, D'Argento single to right field which scored Koszowski and Cooley. . Maine responded in the sixth inning with three runs. The big hit came with two outs and two on when Emj Fogel doubled to center scoring two runs. Maine would score three runs but Weed got out of the inning as she forced Rachel Harvey to ground out to third to end the inning.
In the seventh inning D'Argento opened the inning by making a great play on a hard hit ball to first by Dagmar Ralphs. Moore reached first on a passed ball and Maine had a chance to tie the game. Weed got Shelby Ralphs and Kristen Koslosky to ground out for the final two outs
