Softball's Rally Falls Short At UConn
April 30, 2013
STORRS, Conn. – Trailing 4-0 after three innings, the BC softball team rallied to knot the score before ultimately falling 6-4 to the Connecticut Huskies on Tuesday afternoon.
After missing last week’s games, hurler Chelsea Dimon (9-13) returned to the circle for BC – allowing six earned runs on seven hits over six innings. Kiki Saveriano improved to 15-12 for the Huskies as she allowed one earned run on six hits over seven innings.
The Huskies got on the board in the second after loading the bases with one out on Brittany Duclos' RBI single. Dimon prevented the big inning by retiring Alyssa Gardea on a fly to left and Maddy Schiappa on a comebacker to the circle.
UConn extended its lead to 4-0 in the third on the strength of Jacklyn Dubois’ two-run double and Lexi Gifford’s RBI single up the middle. The Eagles mounted a comeback in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at four.
Maria Pandolfo’s two-run double to the gap in right center put BC on the board in the fourth. CJ Chirichigno shot an RBI single up the middle with two outs to cut the deficit to 4-3. In the fifth, Megan Cooley drew a walk and stole second before coming around on Jessie Daulton’s RBI double to tie the game at four.
The Huskies regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on the strength of Dubois’ two-run homer – her fourth RBI of the game to put UConn up 6-4. Cooley tried to rally the Eagles with a one out single in the seventh but Saveriano closed it out by retiring Daulton and Alana Dimaso to end the game.
The Eagles will play host to the Bryant Bulldogs on Thursday – first pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at Shea Field.
