Softball Drops Two to NC State

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The BC softball team was outslugged in a doubleheader sweep to ACC foe NC State on Saturday at Shea Field.
In game one, three consecutive homers in the first inning and seven homers overall powered the Wolfpack to a 10-3 win.
Stephanie Lord (2-11) took the loss for the Eagles – allowing 10 earned runs on 15 hits over seven innings. Emily Weiman improved to 26-16 for the Wolfpack as she surrendered three earned runs on three hits over seven innings while striking out 12.
NC State jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead on the strength of homers from Hanna Sommer, Scout Albertson, and Bethaney Wells. After a scoreless first, the Eagles got on the board with CJ Chirichigno’s third homer of the season to cut the deficit to 4-1.
Albertson’s second round-tripper of the game put NC State up 5-1 in the third. Trailing by the same score in the fourth, the Eagles trimmed the deficit to 5-3 on Maria Pandolfo’s ninth homer of the season. Lord escaped jams in the fourth and fifth innings but the Wolfpack added three in the sixth and two in the seventh to expand its lead to 10-3.
In game two, eight Wolfpack homers powered its attack in a 16-2 five inning victory. Renada Davis, Albertson, and Leah Jones each had two HR in game two for NC State.
Stephanie Lord pitched both ends of the doubleheader – taking the loss in game two to fall to 2-12 overall this season. Emily Wieman tallied her second victory of the day for the Wolfpack to improve to 27-16 this season
BC and NC State will conclude their three-game series on Sunday – first pitch scheduled for noon.
