April 24, 2013
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - After starting the season 0-7 at home, the BC softball team tallied its first win at Shea Field in 2013 with a 10-2 six inning triumph over Hartford on Wednesday.
Tory Speer led the Eagles - going 2-for-4 with two HR and five RBI including a walk-off homer in the bottom of the sixth.
Freshman Stephanie Lord (1-10) picked up her first collegiate victory - allowing just one earned run on four hits over six innings. The Eagles got to Hawks starter Kaitlyn Meade - chasing her after six earned runs on five hits over two innings. Ana Alberti surrendered two earned runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings of work for Hartford.
RBI doubles by Alana Dimaso and Maria Pandolfo staked the Eagles to a 2-0 lead after one inning of play before Ronnie Mae Ayers' third round-tripper of the season extended the lead to 3-0 in the second.
A five run outburst in the third provided the Eagles with an eight run cushion. Speer's first homer was a three-run shot to center field followed by an RBI base hit from Ayers and an RBI double by Megan Cooley to cap a five run, six hit attack in the third inning.
The Hawks notched single runs in the fourth and fifth before Speer's second homer of the day and third walk-off homer of the season gave BC their second win in the last three games.
The Eagles will host Harvard on Thursday before welcoming in NC State for a three-game set this weekend.
