Softball Sweeps Pittsburgh




April 20, 1999

CHESTNUT HILL-- Mass.--Boston College fought back from a sweep on Saturday by Notre Dame to take both games of the doubleheader in BIG EAST action on Sunday afternoon versus Pittsburgh.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth innings when the Eagles scored four runs on three hits. Senior Jen Murray(Attleboro, MA) singled in two to give the Eagles the early lead. Pittsburgh fought back in the bottom of the inning to score three runs on three hits to make it a 4-3 game going into the last inning.

In the top half of the seventh BC scored five runs to make it 9-3. Sophomore Summer Jarratt(Manhattan Beach, CA) hit a grand slam to capp the five run inning. Pitt scored one in the bottom of the seventh to make the final 9-4.

In game two the Eagles won 6-3. Murray once again led the Eagles, going 3-4 at the plate. BC smashed 11 hits off the Panthers with four Eagles having multiple hit games.

Junior Gretchen Thompson(Brea,CA) pitched 4.1 innings, picking up her sixth win of the year.
