Jordan Weed Leads Softball Past NC State

The Boston College softball team picked up two road games against NC State in Raleigh on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles shut out the Pack, 2-0, in the first game. BC won the second game, 6-2, to improve to 25-18 overall and 9-10 in the ACC. NC State is now 28-11 overall and 12-4 in the conference.

Freshman Jordan Weed went 4-for-7 with four RBI's and eight total bases in two games at the plate while she earned the win on the mound in the second game. She had six strikeouts and gave up two hits.

In the first game, senior Nicole D'Argento earned her 14th win of the season. She struck out seven and scattered three hits. D'Argento retired the final six batters in the game to seal the win.

The Eagle went up, 1-0, when Megan Cooley scored on a single to center field from Alana Dimaso. BC's insurance run came off the bat of Weed, who hit her fifth homerun to left field in the seventh inning.

In the second game, Jordan Weed went 3-for-4 with three RBI's to lead the Eagles to a, 6-2, victory over the Wolfpack.

Weed also picked up her ninth win on the mound as she went five innings and struck out six, while giving up just two hits.

The Eagles went down, 1-0, after the first inning but responded with three runs in the fourth inning. D'Argento walked and Tory Speer was hit by a pitch to start the inning. A double by Jessie Daulton scored D'Argento to tie the game. A single up the middle by Weed knocked in Speer and Daulton.

Weed struck out two in the fourth and got the third batter to pop up before BC would score two more runs to go up, 5-1 in the fifth inning. This time it was a two-run homerun from senior Tory Speer. It was Speer's eighth home run of the season and her 37th and 38th RBI's.

The Eagles sixth run was scored when Weed single to right to score DiMaso.

Boston College will play the final game at NC State on Saturday, April 19 at noon. Fans can watch the game on ESPN3.
