Boston College Softball Defeats Connecticut, 5-4
Eagles win it in the bottom of the seventh.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Gretchen Thompson scored in the bottom of the seventh inning on a Connecticut error to give Boston College a 5-4 victory over Connecticut. The Eagles improved to 26-6-1 and Connecticut's record dropped to 19-15-1.
Mandy Simjian's single in the top of the first inning scored Jessica Yanosy and gave Connecticut an early 1-0 lead. Boston College responded in the second inning with two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
The Eagles added to their lead in the third inning with two more runs. Lauren Fischetti opened the inning with a single and Thompson followed with a double. Fischetti scored on a wild pitch and Melissa Maikos' single scored Thompson to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead.
Connecticut narrowed Boston College's lead in the fifth inning as Ann Gunderson hit a homerun for the Huskies. The Huskies tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning as Boston College pitcher Mary Dietz entered the game. Simjian opened the inning with a single, and was followed by Alison Hirsch's triple that cut the Boston College lead to 4-3. Hirsch tied the game when she scored on a single by Sarah Sandford.
Boston College registered the victory in the bottom of the seventh inning. Thompson hit a single and moved to third base on an error. The winning run came when Thompson scored on another Connecticut error.
