Maryland Defeats Softball, 4-2

Boston College dropped the final game of a three-game series this weekend against ACC foe Maryland, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at Shea Field. The Eagles are now 22-17 overall and 6-9 in the conference. The Terps improved to 4-30 on the season and 3-11 in the ACC.
Senior Nicole D'Argento suffered the loss on the mound as Maryland scored three runs in the final inning. The Eagles pitcher is now 13-11 on the season. She struck out four but gave up nine hits and four earned runs.
Maryland's Kaitlyn Schmeiser picked up the win and is now 3-10 on the season. She scattered seven hits and had two strikeouts.
Both teams scored a run in the first inning and the game was tied 1-1 until the fifth inning. Boston College senior Annie Sommers hit her second home run of the season to give BC a 2-1 lead.
In the seventh inning, Maryland bats came alive. Jessie Warner opened the inning with a double and then scored on a double from Corey Shwartz. Erin Pronobis single to the right side, which scored Schwartz. D'Argento got the next batter to ground out but Shannon Bustillos double to left scoring Pronobis. BC freshman Jordan Weed came in to relieve D'Argento and she got Lindsey Schmeiser to ground out ending the inning.
Boston College could not muster a comeback as Weed flied out, followed by a pop up to second from Sommers. Kaitlyn Schmeiser struck out Megan Cooley as Maryland earns its first win in the three-game series.
The Eagles will now travel to Syracuse to play the Orange in a two-game series on Wed. BC will then head to Raleigh, North Carolina to play at NC State on Friday and Saturday. The games at NC State can be viewed on ESPN3.
