Boston College Sweeps Fairfield

April 2, 1998

PROVIDENCE, R.I.-- Sophomore Gretchen Thompson tossed a one-hitter while senior Melissa Maikos added a two-run single in the sixth inning, helping Boston College post a 4-0 win in the nightcap and complete a sweep of Fairfield University. The Eagles extended their winning streak to five games and snapped a Fairfield four-game winning streak.

Thompson was two outs away from a no-hitter but Theresa O'Connor's infield single ended her hopes. The pitcher allowed just two base runners in the game, including a first-inning walk to Rachel Aponte. Sophomore Cristin Brown scored Boston College's first run when she reached on an error and came home on sophomore Lauren Fischetti's single.

In the first game, freshman Jen Perrotta had three hits including a two-run home run in the fifth inning to pace the attack. She also had a double and a single. Jen Roche had two hits and an RBI while Dana Young added two hits and a run scored for the Stags.
