Softball Drops 3-1 Decision to Boston University
April 4, 2013
BOSTON - The Boston College softball team was held in check by Terriers hurler Whitney Tuthill as the Eagles fell to Boston University 3-1 on Thursday afternoon.
Chelsea Dimon (7-8) tossed her third consecutive complete game - allowing eight hits and three earned runs over six innings in the loss. Tuthill improved to 8-9 this season as she stymied the Eagles for the first six innings - allowing one earned run on five hits over seven innings.
The Terries plated a run in the first and were poised for a big inning but Dimon limited the damage thanks to two put outs at home plate.
BC was unable to string together hits over the first six innings as Tuthill limited them to just three hits over that span. The Terriers extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth on Mandy Fernandez's two-run homer off of Dimon. BU was led on the day by Jayme Mask and Emily Roesch - each registering two hits on the afternoon.
CJ Chirichigno got the Eagles on the board in the top of the seventh with a leadoff homer to left field - her second round tripper of the season. BC brought the tying run to the plate with two outs after a Maria Pandolfo single but Tuthill got Annie Sommers to ground out to third to end the game.
The Eagles will travel down to Florida State this weekend to face off against the Seminoles in a three-game set. Both games in Saturday's doubleheader will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
