Softball Falls in Series Finale at Virginia
March 30, 2013
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Melanie Mitchell’s complete game, 13 strikeout performance led the Virginia Cavaliers over Boston College 4-1 in their series finale on Saturday.
Chelsea Dimon (7-7) turned in another complete game performance for the Eagles – allowing four earned runs on five hits over six innings. Mitchell allowed no earned runs over seven innings to improve to 11-9 this season for the Cavaliers.
The Eagles tallied their lone run of the game in the first as Megan Cooley came around to score on an error by shortstop Alex Skinkis but Mitchell shut the door on BC the rest of the way.
Lauren Didlake’s two-run homer in the second inning off of Dimon proved to be the big blow for Virginia as they tacked on another insurance run that inning and one more in the sixth to extend its lead to 4-1.
CJ Chirichigno tried to rally the Eagles in the seventh with a leadoff single but Mitchell retired the next three batters to secure the victory.
Boston College will return to action on Thursday as they travel down Commonwealth Avenue to take on Boston University.
