CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 25 North Carolina’s five-run fourth blew open a tight game and handed the Eagles their ninth consecutive loss on Sunday by a final of 10-4. The Tar Heels swept the three-game series by a combined score of 25-8 to improve to 18-6 while the Eagles dropped to 4-11 this season.
Lori Spingola (11-4) got the win for UNC while allowing six hits and four earned runs over 5.1 innings. Andrea Filler (2-8) took the loss for BC as she surrendered 10 hits and seven earned runs over 3.1 innings.
The Tar Heels jumped out to a 3-0 after one inning but BC was able to trim the deficit in the third. Maria Pandolfo drew a two out walk before Alana DiMaso’s second homer of the season cut the UNC lead to 3-2.
North Carolina extended their lead in the fourth inning – plating five runs against Filler and reliever Stephanie Lord. Amber Parrish’s two-run shot in the inning did the damage as UNC took an 8-2 lead into the fifth.
Pandolfo’s two-run shot in the fifth, her third homer of the season, cut the deficit to 8-4 but the Eagles couldn’t get any closer as North Carolina won by a 10-4 score for the second consecutive game.
Boston College will be in action on Friday at the USF Tournament against Temple and Colgate.
