Eagles Drop Game Two of UCF Round Robin
March 5, 2013
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Boston College softball team concluded day one action of the UCF Round Robin with a 5-4 loss to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at the UCF Softball Complex on Tuesday. After dropping game one to #14 Michigan earlier in the day, the Eagles were unable to gain a split after their late rally fell short.
Andrea Filler went the distance for BC - going seven innings while allowing nine hits and five earned runs to drop to 2-5 this year. Erin Greenwalt recorded the win for the Cougars - going 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits and three earned runs.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning before tacking on four more runs in the top half of the inning thanks to a two-run double by Samantha Stanicek. The Eagles' bats finally awoke in the bottom half of the sixth with four runs of their own to cut the deficit to 5-4.
CJ Chirichigno's solo shot off of Greenwalt got the Eagles on the board followed by two straight singles by Filler and Alana Dimaso to set the stage for Ronnie Mae Ayers. Ayers' double to left-center plated two runs with a fourth run added on an error later in the inning.
Chirichigno and Filler both had multi-hit games but it wasn't enough as BC's rally just fell short as the Eagles dropped to 4-8 this season.
