Softball Drops Doubleheader at ESPN Citrus Classic

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Boston College softball team was a victim of a doubleheader sweep at the ESPN Citrus Classic on Saturday against #10 Oregon and Notre Dame.
In game one, the Eagles could only manufacture one hit off of Oregon Ducks starter Cheridan Hawkins as they went on to top BC 8-0 in six innings. Hawkins struck out 15 while seeing her no-hitter spoiled by Maria Pandolfo’s double with two outs in the sixth inning.
Andrea Filler (2-3) went three innings for the Eagles, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out one. Chelsea Dimon (0.1 IP, 3 H, 4 ER) and freshman Stephanie Lord (2.0 IP, 6 H, ER, K) also saw action on the mound for the Eagles.
The Ducks tallied three runs in the third and four in the fourth to build a 7-0 lead. Samantha Pappas, Courtney Ceo, and Stevie Jo Knapp all homered as #10 Oregon improved to 16-3 this season.
In game two, BC found themselves down early once again as Notre Dame built a 14-0 lead through four innings. The Eagles added three runs in the fifth to conclude the scoring and give the Irish a 14-3 win in five innings. Andrea Filler (2-4) dropped her second decision of the day, allowing six hits and eight earned runs over 2.2 innings. Stephanie Lord finished off the game for the Eagles, allowing five hits and four earned runs over 1.1 innings pitched.
Pandolfo knocked in one of three BC runs in the fifth inning off of Notre Dame Starter Brittany O’Donnell but she was able to shut the door and improve to 5-1 this season for the Irish.
The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow for the Citrus Classic finale against Georgetown at 1:30 p.m.
